Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Says Bullpen Could Look Much Different Come Postseason

After a less than stellar year from the Dodgers’ bullpen compared to previous seasons, manager Dave Roberts shared that those pitching in October could be well different than the current reliever options.

Addressing the media before a game against the Diamondbacks, Roberts mentioned that such tough calls might not necessarily be the worst thing in the world come the playoffs.

Among the options that Los Angeles’ skipper will have to decide on are many returning from injury with staggering progress as well as some who have been a little more unknown in their recoveries.

“Encouraged by what Blake [Treinen] did today. Encouraged by Walker [Buehler]. Still holding hope that Daniel Hudson is viable, as well as Shelby Miller. So those are four viable, really good options.

All season long, it’s been a struggle for the Dodgers’ bullpen outside of closer Evan Phillips and Brusdal Graterol.

Ranking second in bullpen ERA in the entire league last year, the Dodgers’ 2.87 ERA mark from a year prior has risen to 4.12 in 2023.

Though the team has shuffled some names out and brought some names in during the trade deadline with Ryan Yarbrough and Joe Kelly, deciding which of the recovering reinforcements will be on the bump for October remains at the forefront of Dave Roberts’ mind.

With Buehler’s recovery from his second Tommy John surgery and Treinen’s own shoulder issue that knocked him out for the majority of 2022, you can never have too many good options when the stakes are highest.

Even as the starting rotation has been much better in August for LA, some shake-ups to the team’s depth could very well be coming in the near future.

Dodgers fans will patiently wait to see what the team will do as the postseason push is now fully underway.
