Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman ‘Never Thought’ He’d Reach Historic Milestone
It has been an incredible season for Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman. He has seen major individual success this year, and it has helped translate to overall team wins as well.
Freeman has been one of the more consistent members of the Los Angeles lineup all year, and he is currently in the running for the National League MVP award. But he made more history on Monday night, as he joined the 20-20 club. It’s something that the veteran said he never believed he would accomplish, so it means a ton to him.
“This is one thing I never thought I’d do in my career,” Freeman said. “First basemen usually aren’t speed demons, and the Freemans aren’t known to be very fast — like, my dad just texted me, ‘Fast enough.’ But I try to pick the right situations and stuff like that. I value 90 feet a lot in this game. As it worked out, J.D. got a two-out hit again for another insurance run.”

Freeman has never really been looked at as a speed guy, so for him to reach this milestone, it’s a big deal. He stole his 20th base on Monday night, clinching the honor.
The Dodgers veteran first baseman is only four hits away from 200 on the season as well, and if he can reach that total, he will become the only first baseman in history to do so. This is just a culmination of the type of season that Freeman has put together, and his manager Dave Roberts spoke about the season he has had.
“It’s just an exclamation mark on a tremendous season,” Roberts said. “So for him to reach that milestone, it’s pretty special. But the 20–20, I know he really wanted it, and I’m happy for him.”

On the year, Freeman is hitting .335 with 26 home runs and 93 runs batted in. His production has been off the charts, and it’s a big reason why the Dodgers are where they are in the standings.
“When it’s all said and done, I want people to say that (I) was a good baseball player, not just a good hitter,” Freeman said. “So I strive every day to be out there every single day to play the game hard and play the game right.”

If he can keep up this level of production into the postseason, the Dodgers will be a very tough team to beat. His value to this team can’t be overstated, and he deserves all the praise coming his way this season.
