Dodgers News: Injured Yency Almonte Still Hoping to Make Postseason Roster

Among many of the current Dodgers on the injured list, one reliever that could be an October option for Dave Roberts is eager to make his way back to the mound for some postseason redemption.

Out for the past month due to a hurt knee, Yency Almonte is slowly making progress in his rehab process, but still won’t say he’s all the way back just yet.

Dominant in 2022, Almonte’s 2023 hasn’t exactly gone the same way after his ERA has risen from a sparkling 1.02 last season to a mark north of 5 before going down with injury last month.

Finishing out a game in August against the Rockies, Almonte needed just one more pitch to end the game when he came down with an injury.

Unable to get the final out, Almonte was helped off the field with a trainer where he discovered that he had strained his MCL after further examination.

Though throwing a bullpen session, it’s clear the Dodgers won’t rush the righty back to the field without clearance that he’s 100% ready to face hitters at the major league level once again.

Joe Kelly just returned from his own elbow issue, but other bullpen options such as Daniel Hudson and Blake Treinen are unlikely to return this season.

Such a massive wave of injuries has left Dave Roberts’ options thin enough to rely on rookies in his pitching ranks, including Kyle Hurt fresh from the minor leagues.

Demoted for Kelly after a great MLB debut, such extreme measures have been unseen in Roberts’ stint with the team as he scrambles for answers on the fly to solve the postseason equation.

Should Almonte remain healthy enough to finish the regular season, such a question for Roberts will become even more interesting as the calendar turns to October baseball.
