Dodgers News: Joe Kelly’s Return Pushed Back After Update from Roberts

Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly is still feeling arm discomfort after being placed on the 15-day injured list almost two weeks ago. Kelly was initially diagnosed with right elbow inflammation, marking the second time he has been placed on the IL for the injury.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Kelly attempted to throw a bullpen session Friday, but it did not go well. The 35-year-old is still expected to return to the team at some point this season, but it won’t be on the upcoming homestand as originally hoped.

The Dodgers traded for the reliever at the trade deadline this season. Kelly had spent time with LA from 2019-22 before heading to Chicago to play for the White Sox.

He had seen a notable uptick in the quality of his appearances once he returned to LA this season. Before the trade, Kelly held a 4.97 ERA across 29 innings with the White Sox. Although it is a small sample size, Kelly did not allow a single run and just one hit in four appearances for the Dodgers.

Kelly was a member of the 2020 World Series team, pitching 10 innings for a 1.80 ERA, including making five appearances in the playoffs.
