Dodgers News: Kikè Hernández Feels the Love and Support From LA Fans

Ever since Kiké Hernàndez became a Dodger after the Miami Marlins traded him and Austin Barnes to LA in 2015, Dodger fans have absolutely loved him.

While there was some uncertainty from fans about bringing him back this year amid his career-worst year, he’s proved to be one of the steals of the trade deadline.

He told Jorge Castillo of the LA Times that he needed this reunion to get his season back on track.

“I needed to feel Dodger Stadium again,” Hernández said. “It’s hard not to have [the crowd] be a confidence booster when you’re feeling that much support. It makes you feel like you’re the man again.”

Every Dodger fan knows Hernàndez is a character. No one will forget the drone incident in 2020 when Hernàndez yelled, “I don’t feel safe! I don’t feel safe!” Even before the “Freddie,” Hernàndez frequently danced and photo-bombed Alanna Rizzo while she was doing an interview. His joy for the game and life are contagious.

Hernàndez will live in Dodger history forever even if he doesn’t do anything memorable in 2023. In the 2020 NLCS Game 7 against the Atlanta Braves, he had a game-tying home run that allowed Cody Bellinger to hit the winning home run.

In the 2023 season after coming from the Boston Red Sox, Hernàndez has contributed greatly to the Dodger recent success. His offensive production against lefties is exactly what the Dodgers needed. And fans have absolutely adored him being back in Dodger blue, so much so that he’s a bit embarassed.

“I still get embarrassed all the time when I’m playing outfield and randomly during the game the ‘Kiké’ chants start going,” Hernández said. “People think, because of my personality, I love all that … , but I get super embarrassed.”

I am sorry if Dodger fans’ love for him embarrasses Hernàndez, but he better get used to it, particularly if he does something memorable during this year’s postseason.
