Dodgers News: Kiké Hernàndez Knows Bobby Miller Has What it Takes to Thrive in Big Spots

Rookie starting pitcher Bobby Miller has been one of the biggest storylines throughout the Dodgers season this year. His emergence has allowed them a ton of flexibility within their starting rotation, and it has been great to see play out.

After coming up in May, Miller has been a stable presence in the rotation for LA through all of the issues that they have seen. His calm demeanor on the mound has helped them navigate things, and he continues to prove that he belongs on the big-league level.

As the playoffs come down the line here soon, Miller is going to be counted on heavily to step up. It’s a lot to ask from a rookie, especially one that the team never expected to be in this situation. But his teammates have the utmost confidence in his abilities whenever he takes the mound.

Utilityman Kiké Hernandez spoke about Miller recently on the baseball show Foul Territory and has some high praise for his young teammate.

“You can tell by the way he carries himself on the mound that he’s got that dog in him. He’s a guy that reminds me a lot of Walker for many reasons.”

The comparison to Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler has been there for quite some time. Since he arrived in LA, Miller has been looked at in the same light, due to the success that he has seen as a young arm.

But it’s the way that Miller carries himself on the mound that is most similar. He never seems rattled, even in tight spots. Miller also doesn’t care where he is pitching, he just goes out and executes to the best of his ability.

On the year, he holds an ERA of 4.02 in 19 starts. He has seemed to get better with time, and you can tell that he feels a lot more comfortable facing big-league competition as well.

If he can keep up this level of production, the Dodgers should be in good shape for the playoffs. They are going to need him to step up big this October with the state of their starting rotation in flux right now.
