Dodgers News: Bobby Miller Moving into Contention for Starting Role in Postseason

Over the course of his rookie season, Bobby Miller has become one of the most reliable pitchers in the Dodgers’ starting rotation. As he’s grown and matured throughout his debut campaign, one thing has become clear.

Miller needs to be in the postseason starting rotation.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently addressed the rookie’s status for October, coming just short of officially naming Miller as a postseason starter.

“He’s put himself right there, in front of the conversation, as far as starting a playoff game. He’s earning it.”

Miller was the only Dodger starter who could beat the Atlanta Braves twice in the 2023 season.

During his rookie season, Miller has matured both as a pitcher and a man. In his start against the San Francisco Giants, when things didn’t go his way, he couldn’t stop the rally. He let his emotions get the better of him and it was the worst game of his young career. That start was followed up by another rough outing but things have been significantly better since then.

Since the All-Star break, Miller has been fantastic. He began using his off-speed pitches more than his blazing fastball, making his fastball more effective. His control is getting great. Since he has gained confidence in his ability to get major leaguers out, he is attacking the strike zone. He has 9 wins and 3 losses with a 3.80 ERA.

Clayton Kershaw if healthy will pitch in the postseason. But the left-hander raised red flags in his most recent outing against the Marlins where his velocity was sitting at a career low. Overall, he has been magnificent all year.

Julio Urias is gone for the rest of the season after being placed on administrative leave following his arrest.

Lance Lynn has once again become extremely homer prone. While Roberts and the Dodgers say they are not worried, his ERA north of 10 over his last three outings should be a major cause for concern.

Not only is Bobby Miller earning his spot in the rotation… he’s become desperately needed.
