Dodgers News: Max Muncy Shares an Update on His Injured Right Wrist

The lefty slugger provides some insight into his recovery after being hit by a fastball.

Max Muncy took a fastball to the hands in the 5th inning against the Oakland Athletics on the team’s way to a three-game sweep. The veteran was then pulled from the game the following inning and his name in or around the lineup has been missing.

With many questions as to the extent of his injury. Muncy himself talked to the media today to give a peak at what he has been dealing with the past few days.

Many questions about his injury came up after he was pulled from the game. Some wondered if a short-term IL stint may be in his future to help him recover and heal from the injury.

Muncy has already missed time this year when he missed a little over two weeks in June due to a hamstring strain but this injury seems to be a little less serious.

Muncy is having a very interesting season at the plate, hitting a poor .193 average but still having 27 home runs on the year along with over a .330 on-base percentage. The 32-year-old veteran still has an OPS over .800 on the year and is probably the Dodgers’ fourth most valuable bat, that being said he may be the second or third most valuable bat for any other team than the Dodgers.

With Muncy starting to swing the bat again a return to the lineup looks ever so near.

While a return for the Padres series may not happen, a more than likely return to the lineup may come during the quick two-game series in Arizona against NL West opponent the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Sitting at 63-46, the Dodgers will hope to get the home run-hitting power bat back in the lineup and help separate away from the San Francisco Giants who are currently only three games behind the Dodgers for the NL West title.

  1. Max Muncy is a very dedicated hard-hitting player. He definitely has had some bad luck. No doubt he has the power to hit 35 to 40 home runs a year. His injuries prevent him from being on base more problem is he’s a first baseman not a third baseman although he’s doing a fairly good job considering, just curious how would Mookie Betts be at third and Muncie at second?? Just a thought guys. a few second baseman that’s the issue.
