Dodgers News: MLB Insider Picks Dave Roberts as NL Manager of the Year Winner

It’s been a long but rewarding baseball season for the Dodgers. They overcame some uncharacteristic obstacles early in the year, and now they will enter the playoffs as one of the better teams in the league.

And with only a few days left in the regular season, the talk of the yearly awards has been all the buzz. There are a few members of the Dodgers in the running for different awards, and it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post put together his MLB season award winners, and one member of the Dodgers made the cut. No, it wasn’t Mookie Betts winning the MVP award, but rather manager Dave Roberts taking home the National League Manager of the Year honors.

Heyman was simple and to the point with his reasoning as to why Roberts deserved to be first.

“Dave Roberts, Dodgers: Lost a starting rotation.”

Per Jon Heyman of The NY Post

Following Roberts was Craig Counsell of the Milwaukee Brewers and Skip Schumaker of the Miami Marlins. While both Counsell and Schumaker are great choices, and their respective teams have had good years, Roberts does deserve the award.

He managed to take a team that most people believed would be fighting for a wild card spot, and make them a top team in the league. While the Dodgers have been successful in recent years, this team was very different than in previous seasons.

They lost a ton of talent in the offseason and didn’t do much to replace it. They decided it was time for a youth movement, but Roberts still managed to get the best out of the young guys. And as Heyman mentioned, LA has been duct-tapping their starting rotation together all season long.

It saw them have some early-season struggles, but they persevered. The leadership of Roberts can’t be overstated, and he has his fingerprints all over the success of this club this year. He showed just how good of a manager he was this season, and he deserves his flowers for that performance.
