Dodgers News: RHP Yency Almonte to Remain Sidelined for Longer Than Expected

Though many pitching options have made great progress from their injuries in recent weeks, one Dodger reliever remains sidelined from his injury from a few weeks ago.

According to manager Dave Roberts, Yency Almonte’s knee injury hasn’t been healing as well as the team has hoped and the bullpen arm is still a ways away from coming back to the roster.

Almonte was finishing a game against the Rockies when he landed awkwardly and could not complete the outing despite being one out away from ending the win.

Limping off the field, it was revealed that Almonte suffered an MCL sprain in another instance of a Dodger reliever with a knee issue hindering his season.

Though not as effective this season, Almonte’s rebirth with LA has been well documented with his usage of the sweeper as an offspeed pitch in addition to his fastball.

Almonte pitched to a 1.02 ERA in just over 35 innings for the Dodgers last year and was an integral part of Roberts’ bullpen options this season as well.

It’s another unfortunate roadblock in what’s been a poor showing from Almonte in 2023 as his ERA has significantly risen to over 5 before getting injured.

However, the team has been quite successful in spite of Almonte and other bullpen options not being as effective as they were in 2022.

With a record over 30 games above .500 this season, Los Angeles is in familiar territory with their expectations firmly focused on the postseason once more.

Whether or not those postseason plans will involve Almonte remains to be seen, but we can only hope that the righty returns to action healthy for this year and beyond.
