Dodgers Outfielders Listed on MLB All-Star Ballot Include Some Surprises
The first phase of Major League Baseball All-Star voting began on Wednesday and the Los Angeles Dodgers have some obvious and surprising nominations. The team submitted nine players for the initial ballot.
First baseman Freddie Freeman, second baseman Gavin Lux, shortstop Mookie Betts, third baseman Max Muncy, catcher Will Smith, and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani were the obvious nominations but the surprises came from the outfield.
The bottom third of the lineup has been lackluster for the Dodgers but they still nominated three outfielders who hit seventh, eighth, and ninth in the lineup. Rookie Andy Pages is nominated for his first All-Star Game. He is batting .256 with five home runs and 17 RBIs.
With only 18 games played and 48 at-bats, Jason Heyward was also nominated. He has 11 hits including a double, a triple, and two home runs with six RBIs and eight runs scored. He’s batting .229 with a .726 OPS.
Lastly, and least surprisingly, Teoscar Hernández finds himself in the mix and deservingly so. He’s tied for the team lead with 38 RBIs and is second on the team with 12 home runs, trailing only Ohtani who has 14. He’s fourth on the team with 59 hits and batting .251 this season.
The first round of voting ends June 27, at 9 a.m. Pacific. Fans can vote up to five times daily here.
