Dodgers Plan to Be ‘Very Aggressive’ in Pursuit of Juan Soto: Report

The Los Angeles Dodgers plan to be very aggressive in their pursuit of Juan Soto, per MLB insider Mike Rodriguez. The New York Mets and New York Yankees will also be offering considerable contracts to Soto as the East Coast clubs try to snag the star.

Before the World Series even concluded, there were reports that the Dodgers were interested in signing the star. Just like the Fall Classic, the battle for Soto will be the West Coast versus the East Coast.

Soto is looking for two things in his next team. One, a massive contract. Two, a winning team. The Dodgers have the ability to do both. When the speculation first began about the Dodgers signing Soto, it seemed unlikely that the Dominican star would land in Los Angeles.

But recent events say otherwise. Originally, the likelihood of Soto becoming a Dodgers seemed slim given he and Mookie Betts are both right fielders. But earlier this week, general manager Brandon Gomes revealed Betts would be moving to the infield for 2025.

Could they be making room for Soto? It’s evident the Dodgers are seriously considering adding the Dominican star, but the tale of the offseason is always a tricky one.

The Dodgers are also reportedly interested in signing star shortstop Willy Adames. The team has already made a proposal to Adames, but no progress has been made as of yet.

Los Angeles will never have a shortage of stars as the Dodgers are also the reported favorites to land Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki.

Along with showing interest in two highly-touted free agents and the 23-year-old international phenom, the front office also has to decide whether to keep or let go of key players from 2024 who are now free agents. Those free agents include Walker Buehler, Jack Flaherty, Blake Treinen, Joe Kelly, Teoscar Hernández, and Kiké Hernández.

The offseason frenzy has just begun for the Dodgers. Regardless of the outcome, it’s evident the 2025 season will be an exciting year for the reigning World Series champions.

  1. Would love to have Juan Soto join the Dodgers franchise, however after paying Ohtani huge $$ and talking about adding Snell, doubt they would be able to meet Boras’ proposed figure….

    1. I absolutely would hate this move. This guy is all about himself. I feel this is nothing more than to drive up the price for the other suitors. Soto is not the type of player the Dodgers have pursued. He is not team 1st. He is not versatile in anyway. He show boats any chance he gets.

He is not in the mold of Betts, Freeman, Smith, Hernandez, etc.

I will eat crow if this happens. But as a Dodgers fan, I really, really hope they do not bring this guy in.

Plus, there is a lot of chatter now about his true age.

  2. We have a right fielder, we have a shortstop, we have one utility guy who can play both and another if we re-sign him. We need a better 3rd base – get Nolan Arenado, or convert Miggy to 3rd and get Adames. We need another outfielder, but not a $700 million prima donna. Fill out the roster with guys who hit a steady .270 with 15 home runs and play great defense. Spend the rest of the time shoring up the pitching.

  3. Like I posted on another site. We need to resign Teo. DO NOT SIGN SOTO!! If the plan is to move Mookie to 2nd base; Teo can man right. Soto may be a great hitter; but his deficiencies on the bases and in the field are tremendous. Not fast, and definitely a terrible base runner. A CONSISTANT THREE-FOOT LEAD when he is on first?? He would plug up the bases. How about his fielding? Reads on balls off the wall are below average. That ball that dropped between Rizzo and Soto? He jogged to it. Rizzo was running hard and barely missed it. Soto would have had it if he would have ran. Our guys play HARD. Soto has a good arm; but he is a DH that plays the field. Teo plays hard; has a good arm. He is not a great fielder; but he makes up for that with his attention to details. Oh, and he is a great clubhouse presence. Give Dalton Rushing a look with Pages in left.

  6. While not quite as demonstrative in my feelings as Wayne, I too hope they don’t sign Soto. Gifted hitter to be sure, but the rest of the game is not all that good, but his attitude is stunning in the wrong way.

Pass, however gifted he is, pass. Let other teams deal with his drama and attitude. It’ll make the Dodgers a better team, without him that is.

  7. We’ve already got a good team, just shore up the pitching. Just leave the hot dogs to the others. Maybe he should rejoin that bunch down south and they could open up a stand.
