Dodgers Prospect Takes Major Step Forward in Quest to Reach Big Leagues

When the Dodgers traded Matt Beaty back in 2022 they got an unknown right-handed pitcher named River Ryan. Now, Beaty is not on a major league roster and Ryan has emerged as a top prospect in the farm system – currently 4th according to MLB.com.

Ryan has had a slow start to 2024 after experiencing some shoulder soreness. He finally made his first start with Rancho Cucamonga last Monday.

The 25-year-old pitched two innings, striking out five batters and walking one. Last year, he did reach Triple-A but struggled in his two appearances.

Ryan’s path to Dodger Stadium is not clear. Coming back from shoulder injuries can be tricky and they take time to fully heal. It’s unlikely he will make an appearance with the Dodgers in 2024, as he effectively has only four months to demonstrate that his performance and stamina can rebound from the time off.

If he can stay healthy and perform, Ryan could more likely impact the Dodgers as a reliever or a starter in 2025.
