Dodgers Reportedly Interested in Former Padres RHP Seth Lugo

The Dodgers are looking all over the league for starting pitching help, and they remain determined to upgrade the rotation from a year ago. They are expected to be aggressive in doing so, and LA knows that they will have to get creative to build everything out. They have been linked with most of the top-tier free agents already this winter, and while they remain active there, they also have to look at a few value signings as well. One of those that they are showing interest in is former San Diego Padres right-hander Seth Lugo. Insider Ari Alexander reported the interest.

The Dodgers had interest in Lugo a year ago, but he chose to sign with San Diego instead. We could see them pivot back to the veteran right-hander after his very productive year with the Padres.

Lugo made 26 starts for San Diego, posting an ERA of 3.57 and a WHIP of 1.20 in the process. He also added 140 strikeouts over 146.1 innings of work.

He showed that he could do much more than just be a relief pitcher this past season, and the Padres gave him the chance to be a starter. Lugo wanted a bigger role and thrived in taking it, which is likely to lead him to a multi-year deal.

If Lugo were to land with the Dodgers, he could easily slot in as their No. 3 or 4 starter, depending on how the rest of the offseason shakes out. LA loves versatile pitchers, and Lugo fits that to a tee.

He isn’t the home run signing that many fans are clamoring for right now, but he would be a quality addition to the team to help build the depth of the LA rotation. If they land Lugo, in addition to another pitcher or two, it would be a very solid offseason for the Dodgers.

  1. Dodger management is just like lakers. Long on dreams…not willing to pay! Think of all the wasted talent the dodgers have had throughout the years, common denominator, unwilling to pay for a complete quality team! Keep dreaming Dodgers!!!
