Dodgers Reportedly Made a Decision on Alex Reyes’ Club Option

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly expected to decline the $3 million club option on RHP Alex Reyes for the 2024 season. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported the news.

Reyes is going to receive a buyout of $100,000 and hit unrestricted free agency.

This option could have gone either way, as Reyes has tons of potential out of the bullpen. However, in 2023, he struggled with injuries, and didn’t end up making one appearance for the club.

He initially told our own Doug McKain that he was targeting a June or July return, but then he suffered a setback, and was ruled out for the 2024 season.

Could the Dodgers Bring Alex Reyes Back in 2024?

It remains to be seen if the Dodgers elect to bring Reyes back, but the option very much remains on the table.

The Dodgers clearly liked what they saw in Reyes, leading to them sign him to a $1.1 million deal last year. The $3 million option is likely being declined for the sole reason that LA could probably get him back on a cheaper deal in 2024 if they so choose.

Reyes was very solid when he last pitched in 2021, sporting a 3.24 ERA in 69 appearances with the St. Louis Cardinals. He racked up 29 saves, an incredible 95 strikeouts in 72.1 innings, and made the All-Star team for the first and only time in his career.

In all transparency, I hope the Dodgers bring Reyes back on another cheap deal, and give him an opportunity to contribute out of the bullpen — assuming, of course, he’s fully healthy and on track to pitch next season.
