Dodgers Rumors: Another Aggressive Suitor Has Emerged in the Shohei Ohtani Sweepstakes

The player on everyone’s mind when it comes to the Dodgers is two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. LA is after the free agent this winter, and they are expected to be aggressive in trying to sign him.

He has been the talk of the baseball world since the season ended, and the industry is waiting for him to make his free agency decision. Ohtani has been linked to multiple teams, and nobody knows what will happen.

But another day, another rumor about Ohtani. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal is reporting that there is a new sleeper suitor for the free agent, and it comes from the AL East.

“At least one rival executive views the Blue Jays as a sleeper for Shohei Ohtani.”

The Blue Jays are an interesting team, especially since they were eliminated from the postseason early again this year. They were swept out of the Wild Card series by the Minnesota Twins and may be looking to make a splash this offseason.

They have some very talented players on the roster that could intrigue Ohtani, and they could sell him playing in an international market like Toronto. But they may be missing the most important factor in how Ohtani will be deciding his future team.

Almost every team in baseball would love the chance to sign Ohtani, but the reality of the situation is that most won’t be able to be in the running. Ohtani is a very calculated athlete, and his biggest priority is to win consistently, something most teams aren’t able to offer him.

The Dodgers are one of the few teams across baseball that can offer him both the financial compensation that he is looking for and the ability to be on a team with the chance to win the World Series each year. It is the main reason why many in the industry believe LA is the frontrunner to land him this winter.

LA expected there to be multiple suitors for the services of Ohtani, and they likely prepared themselves for it. The organization has been trying to get Ohtani into Dodger Blue for a long time, and this is the chance for them to do so.

  1. All these constant Ohtani rumors are getting old . Let’s just wait until at least the Winter to to discuss this further. Rumors are just nonsense.

  2. Let them Have Ohtani. I would much rather see the Dodgers sign Yamamoto and another decent pitcher.

    1. I don’t get this mindset from some Dodger fans. Why does it have to be either or? The Dodgers are currently $94 million under last years payroll and that includes projected arbitration numbers. They could add an AAV of $50 million for Ohtani and still have a boat load of money to invest into this team. The only reason I see where they don’t get any guy they want this winter is if the guy simply decides to play elsewhere.
