Dodgers Rumors: Insider Expects Miguel Rojas to Be Traded This Offseason

The 2023 Dodgers have been some great surprises this season. It has helped elevate them to the heights they have seen right now. They have also seen some disappointments in terms of injuries and regression. LA has been forced to rely on players that they never thought they would be.

One of those players is shortstop Miguel Rojas. He was acquired in the offseason from the Miami Marlins and was expected to be more of a depth piece for the season.

But due to different injuries, he was forced to be an everyday starter. Throughout the year, his defense has been good, but his bat has been a major problem.

Currently, he is hitting only .215 with one home run and 16 runs batted in. He has also been used as more of a mentor for this team due to his limitations on offense.

He has a $5.75 million club option for next season, and it remains to be seen if he will be back. But one writer seems to believe that he is the most likely member of the Dodgers to be traded this winter.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report listed one player from each team, and Rojas was named for the Dodgers

“It’s tough to find a good trade candidate for the Dodgers, who have a ton of guys hitting free agency, as well as four relievers with club options that they’ll probably decline. But with Gavin Lux presumably returning from his torn ACL and with Mookie Betts looking like he could at least be a part-time second baseman moving forward, they don’t have much need for Rojas. He turns 35 in February and has been a black hole in the lineup for most of the year, but he was solid, near-everyday shortstop prior to this season..”

Per Bleacher Report

I expect them to pick up his option due to its low amount. It makes some sense to move on from Rojas, but they could also hold onto him for depth purposes. Having him around as a veteran presence could be a positive impact on this club. It all depends on how the roster is constructed.

Some other teams may want to take a chance on Rojas due to his defensive skillset. So LA has options on what to do with the veteran infielder over the offseason.

Either way, he has provided some value to this team this season, and they will likely continue to use him as the season winds down. We all know that President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman always finds different ways to improve the roster.

  1. This doesn’t address how Gavin Lux’s Injury return won’t be a guaranteed success, he’s tough but hasn’t shown any success at the MLB level, leading us dodger fans to believe he’s just a “hope” type player. We “hope” he’ll succeed. will he? I personally doubt it. Plus our farm has depth but the infielders don’t seem to be have a good replacement at SS. We need rojas there even though his bat is lacking as he brings a better atmosphere to the club over lux. Hopefully Amaya finally breaks out
