Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Bought Dave Roberts a Porsche as a Gift …Kind Of

Shohei Ohtani has been making the most of his Porsche sponsorship this season. Earlier this year, he gifted Ashley Kelly a new Porsche in exchange for the number 17 – formerly worn by her husband Joe Kelly.

Now, he has gifted Dodgers manager Dave Roberts a purple Porsche to commemorate tying Roberts’ home run record. The Porsche, though, is much smaller. It’s actually a toy car that Roberts has on his desk.

Ohtani’s eighth home run with the team will break the record for most home runs by a Japanese-born Dodger. Ironically, Ohtani already has the record for the most home runs hit by a Japanese-born player in all of baseball – he just hit all but seven of those with the Angels.

In the aftermath of the Ippei Mizuhara scandal, the Dodgers have said that Ohtani has been more open with the team. Several players have commented that he has a great sense of humor and is a joy to be around.

This is just another glimpse into the personality of someone that most would consider an enigma.

  1. Not even a good attempt at distraction from the betting issue (which is far from over for Othani).
Did he pay more than $100k for that Porsche toy?
