Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani ‘Not Surprised’ by Boos Playing in Toronto
When Shohei Ohtani stepped into the batter’s box for the first time at Rogers Centre on Friday, he was met with a rainfall of boos from the Toronto faithful. After all the events of the offseason that saw the Blue Jays be the biggest competitor for the services of Ohtani, it made sense for the fans to want to show Ohtani that they believed he made the wrong decision.
However, Ohtani was quick to shut them all up and blasted a home run to silence the crowd. It was a great moment for Ohtani and the Dodgers as a whole, showing what he is made of.
Ohtani spoke about getting booed by the Toronto fans, saying that he wasn’t surprised by their treatment of him.
“Not surprised,” Ohtani said through his interpreter, chuckling over the fans’ reaction.

Toronto has a loyal fanbase and Ohtani was heavily considering joining the Blue Jays this offseason so it makes sense. The two-way superstar even acknowledged this, comparing them to the fans in Los Angeles.
“I really do feel that the fans here are passionate, and when they are, that’s the kind of reception that they will probably do. So I’m just very grateful and respectful that the fans here are passionate just as much as the Dodger fans are with us.”

Thankfully for the Dodgers, Ohtani decided to come to the team. He has been everything that the organization envisioned and more, giving them another superstar to work around.
With Ohtani in the mix, the Dodgers have the feeling of a superteam this season. They have been playing much better over the last few days and Ohtani has contributed much to their recent success of late.
