Dodgers To Re-Sign Ryan Brasier After Caleb Ferguson Trade

After news this morning dropped that the Dodgers were trading left-hander Caleb Ferguson to the New York Yankees, most expected some sort of corresponding move to take place. Shortly after the trade, the Dodgers agreed to re-sign veteran right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier.

There had been talk for weeks of a possible reunion with Brasier, but now it’s official. He returns to the bullpen for next season after dominating in the second half of 2023 with Los Angeles.

The deal is for two years and $9 million guaranteed. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported the contract details.

After being designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox in May 2023, Brasier joined the Dodgers on a minor-league contract last June and worked his way onto the big-league club. He posted an ERA of 0.70 and a WHIP of 0.72 over 39 games, helping the Dodgers absorb the losses of veteran right-handers Daniel Hudson and Blake Treinen to injuries.

The Dodgers relied on Brasier in the second half of the season in high-leverage situations, and ostensibly believe he can replicate his results. For a pitcher who made a massive impact, the Dodgers were able to retain him on a relatively low-risk contract.

Brasier will be turning 37 in August. While his re-signing is not the most eye-popping transaction of a historic offseason, it’s the kind of small move that can go a long way toward the Dodgers’ goal of winning a World Series.

  1. It was about time… Brasier was great for the Dodgers, another feather in Mark Pryor’s cap…
