Braves Reliever on Dodgers’ Offseason: ‘Money Doesn’t Buy Wins’

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ big-spending offseason continues to be a major talking point. While several Dodgers have spoken out in support of their moves, others have offered their own takes.

For Atlanta Braves reliever A.J. Minter, the Dodgers’ offseason doesn’t guarantee them anything though. He made an appearance on the Foul Territory show.

“We can be better than we were last year,” Braves reliever AJ Minter said. “That’s saying a lot, because we did set a lot of records last year especially on the offensive side. Money doesn’t buy wins. Obviously the Dodgers are a great team, they expect to be right there in the postseason this year. They went out and got some really good players. But we’ve seen it before. I mean, not to pick on the Mets, money is not gonna buy you a World Series, not gonna buy you a division champ. It takes a lot more. It takes guys all pulling together in the clubhouse… I think that’s what separates us from other teams. We treat each other like family… We’re the pedestal of organizations.”

The Dodgers know that the offseason won’t alone win them the World Series. However, they also believe the moves they have made put them in a strong position to win their first World Series since 2020.

Of course, the Dodgers will have to get through teams like the Braves, who set records while leading the MLB with a 104-58 record. Like the Dodgers’ big spending, the Braves’ fantastic regular season didn’t guarantee them any postseason wins. Instead, the Texas Rangers won the World Series.

It will come down to both teams making and showing up in the postseason to actually win a title. For now, it’s about the preparation to get to that point.

    1. But he’s not wrong. Although I’d question his “pedestal of organizations” comment. He plays there so should feel that way. However, isn’t he the same putz who after they knocked LA out in 2021 in the NLCS who said 2020 didn’t count? Yet, had his pedestal sitting Braves not choked away the 2020 NLCS and their 3 – 1 lead, he would have been first in line with a “Repeat” or “Back to Back” t shirt after they won it all in 2021 against the hated Astr*s. That one certainly sounded like sour grapes. And considering they’ve alternated #1 and #2 seed with LAD the last two seasons and both have been knocked out by the #6 seed in the NLDS, he doesn’t have much to talk about.

  1. I got news for Minter…
The Braves spend money too, as does other teams. So why he singles out Dodgers for doing so is beyond me. Dodgers are preparing for the chance to win a WS just like the Braves and other teams are or trying to do.

  2. Isn’t it funny how you never hear any Dodgers players going out of their way to talk about other organizations yet players in other organizations can’t keep the Dodgers out of their mouths? That says it all to me.

And the consensus throughout the industry is that the Dodgers have the best culture in the sport. The Braves are right there as well but the Dodgers have been absolutely elite for 11 years going on 12. The Braves have been elite for 5 after half a decade of pure incompetence.

  3. Yes money doesn’t buy a World Series but it helps. The Dodgers have been a tight organization for years and now they need to get everybody in the clubhouse to get along, something that they do every year.
