Dodgers: Will Smith Out of the Lineup Again With Soreness
The Dodgers and Pirates will go head-to-head in game 2 of their series this afternoon. Following a loss on Monday night, Los Angeles will turn to Tony Gonsolin to get things turned back around. Gonsolin is coming off 5 strong innings against the Giants in which he allowed 1 earned run last week.
But the Dodgers will once again be without Will Smith. The backstop got the day off on Monday with Austin Barnes behind the plate. But when they released the lineups today, Smith was once again not in the lineup.
Dave Roberts later revealed that Smith is dealing with some soreness in his pectoral. Doc also added that he expected Smith to be back behind the plate for the Dodgers on Wednesday morning, which is great news.
Will Smith has been dealing with a right peck issue and that’s why Barnes gets back to back starts. Will Smith will start tomorrow’s day game per Dave Roberts. #Dodgers

On the year, Smith is hitting .231 with a .711 OPS at the plate. He hasn’t had his best stuff with the bat as of late though, going 3-for-18 to start the month of May. Getting him back on track is very important for the heart of the Dodgers lineup.

At his best, Smith can OPS somewhere around the .950 mark and drive the ball to all fields. But his chase rate is among the best in the league still, and the hits will start to come. He’s had the unfortunate tendency of hitting balls very hard but right at fielders in the past. The Dodgers don’t want to change up much.
