Former Dodgers Pitcher Julio Urías Facing 5 Charges From Los Angeles City Attorney

Former Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías is facing five misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident with his wife last September, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office confirmed Tuesday.

TMZ was the first to report that Urías is facing one count of spousal battery, two counts of domestic battery involving dating relationship, one count of false imprisonment and one count of assault. Urías’ arraignment is scheduled for May 2 in the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Urías, 27, is currently a free agent. He was arrested Sept. 3, 2023 outside BMO Stadium following an altercation with his wife, Daisy, then placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball three days later.

According to TMZ:

Law enforcement sources told us Urias and Daisy got into a tiff after the pitcher had taken pictures at the event with female fans. At one point during their argument, our sources claim Urias got physical with her … allegedly putting his arm around her, slamming her against a fence, and pulling her hair.

Cops say they were told Urias then swung at her.

Urías never returned to the Dodgers, who originally signed him as an amateur pitcher out of Mexico in Aug. 2012.

The left-hander went 60-25 with a 3.11 ERA in 158 games (122 starts) for the Dodgers from 2016-23. He also made 23 postseason appearances for the Dodgers in his career, highlighted by a save in Game 6 of the club’s World Series-clinching victory against the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020.

In January, the Los Angeles County District Attorney declined to press felony charges against Urías. Regardless of the outcome of Urías’ legal case, Major League Baseball can still impose discipline on the pitcher. MLB previously suspended Urias in 2019 under the terms of its domestic violence policy, also stemming from a public incident with his wife.

  1. What he did is inexcusable and he should be punished. However, he didn’t kill anyone. He does not deserve a death penalty. The kid needs help. I hope he seeks it and gets it. I am sure he is facing at least a years suspension by MLB when this is all settled.
