Gavin Lux Embracing Dodgers Label as ‘Villians’ of Baseball

After a massive spending spree that saw the Dodgers commit to over $1 billion this offseason, many around Major League Baseball have thrown hate at the team. Los Angeles already had a stacked roster, but proceeded to add even more talent in their search for another World Series title.

Bringing in two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani was the first domino to fall, but also adding Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Teoscar Hernandez, among others, has irritated opponents. Los Angeles will enter the 2024 season with a target on their backs, but they wouldn’t want it any other way.

Much like others on the team, infielder Gavin Lux is embracing the label being put on the Dodgers this offseason as the “villains” of baseball. He spoke about how someone in the league needs to do it, so it may as well be Los Angeles.

“Why not. Someone’s gotta be.”

The Dodgers front office decided to go all-in this offseason after consecutive winters that saw them lose All-Star talent. For anyone to expect them to sit on their hands following another embarrassing postseason loss, they don’t understand the pressure to win in Los Angeles.

Ownership and the team were just as frustrated as the fanbase, so they decided to do something about it. They flexed their financial muscle this winter, much to the disapproval of opponents.

The pressure to win for the Dodgers is always paramount, but it’s even more so this coming season. People will take pleasure in their shortcomings, but the hope is the team can finish the job this year.

All the additional talent gives the Dodgers a great shot to win the World Series, and anything less than a title will be seen as a wasted season.
