Mookie Betts Says Outside Narratives Come With Territory of Signing With The Dodgers
Some people understand what it means to play in the city of Los Angeles, while others don’t. There is a level of pressure and expectations placed upon the athletes in this city, which also means outside noise.
Star Mookie Betts is one of the players who understands what it takes to play in this city and has embraced it fully. After a record-setting spending spree this offseason, the Dodgers are viewed as the villains of baseball.
Betts has previously spoken on this subject, questioning why they are getting hate for trying to field a winning team. But he understands that playing for a team like the Dodgers, these types of outside narratives just come with the territory.
“I mean yeah, I think you have too. That’s why you sign with the Dodgers cause you’re going to get a chance to win, each and every year.”
The veteran understands that winning brings hate to teams, and the Dodgers have done a lot of winning over the last decade. While it hasn’t turned into postseason success, they have had a chance to win the World Series each season.
All the noise outside the clubhouse is just that. Betts understands that the team can’t do anything about it other than going out and winning.
“Those are things on the outside that are put on us. So what do you do.”
The pressure really is on the Dodgers this coming season after landing Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow, among others. Los Angeles has the tools in place to heavily succeed this year, and anything less than a title will be seen as a failure of a season.
