Matt Kemp Puts Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman in ‘Top 5 Favorite Teammates’

Since the Dodgers signed first baseman Freddie Freeman in early 2022, it has been almost a perfect pairing. Los Angeles has been dominant through the regular season, and Freeman has fit into the team like a glove.

Former Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp gave some high praise to Freeman, whom he was a teammate with from 2016-2017 with the Atlanta Braves. Kemp recently interviewed with AM-570 and said that the Dodgers first baseman is a top-five teammate of his.

“I don’t think anybody ever thought he would leave Atlanta. but when I saw that he went to L.A., him being from there, I know it was probably something he always dreamed of. Being able to play with him in Atlanta, being able to build that relationship with him, have two special years with him, was great. Unbelievable teammate. Great person on and off the field. And he definitely is in my Top 5 favorite teammates I ever played with.”

Many people didn’t believe Freeman would ever leave the Braves, but the Dodgers took advantage of the strange situation to sign him long-term. His tenure with the Dodgers has been stellar, and he has been one of the more productive members of the team throughout.

Last season, Freeman was a National League MVP finalist. He appeared in 161 games for Los Angeles, hitting .331 with 29 home runs and 102 runs batted in.

But it was an unlikely statistic for Freeman that stood out for Kemp, his base-stealing from 2023. Freeman led the Dodgers with 23 stolen bases in 24 attempts, which is impressive for someone who doesn’t portray themselves as a speed threat.

“He thinks he’s faster than what he is, but his baseball IQ is very, very high. he doesn’t make many mistake on the field. Special player. He’s probably one of the most consistent players in major league baseball. Tough to get out. Doesn’t swing at balls. He just hits strikes, and he hits for power.”

Freeman is a well-rounded player, and the Dodgers have benefitted greatly from him being on the roster. He will look to continue his strong production this season, and Kemp will surely be watching how it all plays out.
