Dodgers News: Gavin Lux Discusses How He’s Dealt With Shortstop Trade Rumors This Offseason

One of the key pieces to the 2024 Dodgers season will be the return of shortstop Gavin Lux to the team. Lux suffered a torn ACL during Spring Training last season, which caused him to miss the entire year.

He has spent his time attacking his rehab process and is now expected to be ready to go for Opening Day. Before his injury, Lux was finally going to be given the chance to start every day after patiently waiting in the wings behind Corey Seager and Trea Turner.

Lux is expected to be the everyday shortstop for the Dodgers, and the team is excited to see what he can do throughout a full season. However, for most of the offseason, there was talk about the team potentially moving to upgrade at the position.

The former top prospect for Los Angeles recently appeared on SportsNet LA and addressed all of the trade rumors that have been going around.

“I never really read into it too much, just on all the speculation stuff. Going through the minor leagues and being in a ton of trade deadline rumors and all that, you just kind of get used to stuff getting thrown around.”

There was heavy speculation that the team could make a move for shortstop Willy Adames from the Milwaukee Brewers, with Lux being part of the package. But Lux understands that this is a business and that he can only control certain aspects of everything.

But even with all the trade nouse, the front office remained deadset on giving Lux his chance this season. The support from leadership meant everything to Lux, and he is thankful to be a member of the Dodgers organization.

“Obviously, (general manager Brandon Gomes) to say that and (president of baseball operations) Andrew (Friedman), and just to have the front office still believe in you and nothing changes, that means a lot, and kind of boosts your confidence obviously. But those guys have been nothing but extremely supportive the entire way this whole process that kind of sucked, and definitely thankful for all those guys. Not everyone’s like that.”

Assuming Lux can get back up to speed quickly, the Dodgers will be getting back a very talented, young player for the season. He showed better bat skills and speed on the bases in 2022, and Lux will be looking to continue developing his game.

With the state of the Dodgers roster, Lux should be able to ease his way back into it all. He is poised to have a solid season and is ready to prove he is fully healthy.
