MLB Insider Says Dodgers ‘Not Close’ on Prospect Capital In Dylan Cease Trade Talks

The Dodgers have reportedly been in trade talks with the Chicago White Sox for starter Dylan Cease for the last few weeks, but nothing has come of it yet. Both sides have continued to discuss potential names in a deal, and the Dodgers have seen other competitors enter into the equation.

Landing Cease would be a great move for the Dodgers, as he would satisfy their need for a front-line starter. But it doesn’t seem that the sides are close on any deal, and the White Sox may hold off dealing Cease for the time being.

MLB insider Bob Nightengale spoke with our very own Doug McKain, and he said that the Dodgers aren’t close in terms of what it would take to land Dylan Cease. You can see the entire interview right here!

“The Dodgers have been talking to them for a few weeks now but haven’t come close to bridging the gap as far as prospect capital.”

Nightengale also said that he believes that we are still a little bit away from a Cease deal going down. Chicago wants to see what happens with some of the top-tier free-agent pitchers first, then they may be able to get more out of desperate teams that missed out.

“I still think we are at least a week or two away on Cease. I think people may want to see about Yamamoto. If they can’t get Yamamoto then all those teams will be rushing toward Chicago.”

This would be a smart move by Chicago, and it will likely see their return for Cease skyrocket. They know that they hold all the cards with him, and with him being under contract for two more seasons, teams heavily value that.

LA has been aggressive in negotiations to add starting pitching to the mix this offseason, and with the winter meetings coming next week, things could develop quickly. Hopefully, the Dodgers can land Cease in a trade, along with at least one other top free agent this winter.
