Dodgers ‘Most Aggressive’ Team Pursuing Dylan Cease, But Over 12 Teams in the Mix

Since the news broke just a few weeks ago that the Los Angeles Dodgers have engaged in trade talks with the Chicago White Sox in acquiring former 2022 AL Cy Young runner-up pitcher Dylan Cease, it appears LA has remained aggressive in trying to acquire him. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal that the Dodgers have been the most aggressive team among the over a dozen in pursuing a trade.

“More than a dozen teams have inquired on Cease, with the Dodgers among the most aggressive, as USA Today’s Bob Nightengale and others have reported.”

Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic

While the Dodgers have not made any significant roster moves this offseason, it remains clear that LA has its sights set on bolstering the starting rotation this offseason. Cease would fit that bill.

As of now, the Dodgers feature a pitching staff that includes just two for sure names in Walker Buehler and Bobby Miller. LA will be without Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May next year, as both of them will miss the 2024 season due to injury.

As of right now, Clayton Kershaw is a free agent and even if he does re-sign back to the Dodgers, it’s still unknown when he could return as he underwent surgery just a few days after the 2023 MLB season came to an end.

Acquiring a pitcher like Cease could be a difference-maker for the Dodgers next year, as he is only 27 years old, still has two more years of club control and is a dominant pitcher on the mound.

In what was a down year with the White Sox last year, Cease threw over 200 strikeouts for the third straight year. In 2021, Cease was a 13-game winner with a 3.91 ERA. In 2022, he was even better as he won 14 games and held a 2.20 ERA with 227 strikeouts, the highest in his career.
