Mookie Betts Reveals What He's Most Excited About for Opening Series in Korea

The Los Angeles Dodgers and their National League West rivals, the San Diego Padres, will kick off their regular seasons in Seoul, South Korea. The Seoul Series will be a two-game mini-series between the two foes. It will allow players and coaches to experience the country, and a new audience in South Korea to see what the MLB game is all about in person.

One Dodger player exhilarated about the Seoul Series is their superstar second baseman, Mookie Betts. Betts spoke to the SportsNet LA crew and said he’s “excited” about playing and exploring a new city and country.

“Yeah, absolutely. I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun. The food is what I’m really, really, really excited about because I’ve heard about it so much and I haven’t gotten a chance to go over. So I’m really excited to go over there and eat, and obviously play baseball, right. Just to see the culture and to see something new.”

This will be the first MLB regular season game ever to take place in South Korea.

Betts has done it all on the diamond for the Dodgers in the States, and now he’ll get to showcase his prowess to the Korean fanbase. As the seven-time All-Star said, his entire focus won’t all be on the games but on the culture. He’s looking forward to doing it all in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Dodger Stadium concession stands have featured their own spin on Korean rice bowls and kimchi pancakes in the past, but they’re no substitute for the real thing. One dish Betts should try is Korean stew (jjigae), which contains meat, seafood, or vegetables in a seasoned broth with hot pepper paste, fermented miso, soybean paste, or salted fermented shrimp.

Off the field, the Seoul Series ought to be an excellent experience for players on both sides. More importantly, it will offer an opportunity for the Dodgers to start their historic 2024 season off on the right foot.

  1. I very proud of all of Mookies accomplishments. He played basketball in high-school with my son. He has always been humble, kind and giving. His parent’s are super nice and he deserves all the success that he has received. Thanks, God bless to him and his beautiful family.

  2. Yeah, good thing they are going to Korea. He probably couldn’t afford airfare over there on his own.
