Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers, Guggenheim Baseball Donate Over $1 Million to Japan Earthquake Relief

Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Guggenheim Baseball made a pledge to donate to Japan earthquake relief following the deadly natural disaster that hit the country earlier this week.

Ohtani released a statement on his Instagram, and the Dodgers released one shortly after with an English translation. Here are both posts:

Here’s the statement from Ohtani:

“In support of the disaster relief efforts for the 2024 Sea of Japan earthquake and in collaboration with the Dodgers, I am making a donation in aid of the survivors. I would like to thank those who have joined in the recovery effort, and my hope is that we continue to come together to support those whose lives have been upended. I hope for the rapid rescue of missing persons and the reconstruction of the disaster-stricken areas.”

Here’s the statement from the Dodgers:

“In collaboration with Shohei Ohtani, who is making his own personal contribution, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Guggenheim Baseball are donating $1 million to support those affected by the New Year’s earthquake in Japan. Our thoughts are with all of Japan in the wake of this tragedy.”

The Dodgers and Guggenheim Baseball are donating $1 million, while Ohtani is making an unspecified personal donation.

The death toll from the magnitude 7.6 earthquake has crossed 100, with hundreds of people still missing. Here’s the latest update, per Reuters.
