What will the Dodgers Starting Rotation Look Like in August?

The Dodgers should have a new-looking starting rotation in August. With Clayton Kershaw returning from the IL and the new acquisition of Lance Lynn, the club wouldn’t need to start Emmet Sheehan, and/or Michael Grove.

Since the middle of May, injuries have forced the Dodgers to rely on three rookies in the rotation. While Bobby Miller, Sheehan, and Gavin Stone/Grove have glimpses of brilliance, they need more time in AAA. Unless Ryan Pepiot, who is currently on a minor league rehab assignment as he returns from a strained oblique that has cost him most of the season, comes to the major leagues, the Dodgers will need either Miller or Sheehan to be the fifth starter.

Miller should be their fifth starter since he has a huge upside. His pitch selection is electric. He needs major-league experience since he could be an ace of the Dodger starting rotation in the future.

If Julio Urías and Tony Gonsolin regain their 2022 form, the Dodgers will have an outstanding rotation. Neither has performed up to expectation. Urías missed a month with a hamstring pull, but he hasn’t pitched well, posting a 4.98 ERA. At no time during this season has Gonsolin looked like the All-Star he was in 2022. His 4.25 ERA is a career worst.

The Dodgers need to have either Urías or Gonsolin to go on a streak of good starts to beat elite teams.

Lynn is a strikeout pitcher with excellent control. While he had a high ERA with the Chicago White Sox, he can be an elite starter. Lynn will pitch better with bigger parks in the National League West.

Any time the Dodgers can get Kershaw back, it’s great. Kershaw was having a Cy Young-caliber season when he went on the IL. He should lead the new Dodger starting rotation that can compete with good major-league teams.

  1. Gonsolin is garbage and needs to be traded/released….and if they even consider bringing back mister blister Rich Hill Friedman should be gone too.
