Why A Kiké Hernádez, Dodgers Reunion Doesn’t Make Sense Anymore

The Dodgers’ front office has been on a spending spree this offseason, shelling out over $1 billion in committed money. They are heavily invested in bringing another World Series title back to Los Angeles, and spending this type of money proves it.

L.A. has brought in multiple guys to plug holes on the roster, but one player who hasn’t been talked about recently is utility man Kiké Hernández. Hernández is one of the more popular players on the Dodgers, and his return last trade deadline was a welcome sight for the fanbase.

However, our very own Doug McKain doesn’t believe that there is a great chance of him returning to the Dodgers next season. Simply, it doesn’t make sense with all the other moves the team has made.

Hernández seemed to flip the script in the second half of the season with the Dodgers, but they don’t have room for him on the team. After signing Teoscar Hernández, Los Angeles may have filled their position player roles.

This idea was further proven when they traded away top prospect Michael Busch to the Chicago Cubs. Busch has proven he belongs at the big-league level, but the Dodgers just didn’t have room for him on their active roster.

If the Dodgers were to trade away Chris Taylor, then a spot for Hernández could open up. But for now, it seems like the two sides will be going their separate ways this offseason.

Hernández has been one of the worst defensive shortstops in the league, which could be factoring into the team not bringing him back. He is also a streaky hitter, who had below-average offensive production during his time with the Dodgers.

It feels like Los Angeles is committed to building a new era of Dodger baseball, much like McKain referred to in his video. Hernández will always be a fan favorite and remembered greatly, but it doesn’t make sense to bring him back at this time.

Offseasons are always fluid, and maybe something changes. But for now, it seems that Hernández will be looking for a new home for the 2024 season.

  1. Michael Busch did not prove he belonged in the big leagues, looked overmatched inthe AB’s I saw

      1. He didn’t get any consistent playing and when he was given a chance, he was replaced after only one AB.

  2. If I’m given a choice C.T. or Kike. I would take Kiké. More reliable. Just my belief.

  3. Massive Mistake if they don’t bring him back.. Trade Taylor, Yarbrough, Margot, whoever else you wanna toss in, for Cease, and bring back Kike!!!!!!!
