Diamondbacks Sign Former Dodgers Outfielder, Invite Him To Spring Training
Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Kyle Garlick signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday and has an invite to big league spring training.
The veteran outfielder was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 2015 MLB Draft, making his debut in 2016. He stayed with the organization through the 2020 season but didn’t play much. Garlick only played in 20 total games over four seasons.
Garlick reunites with former teammate Joc Pederson after spending the past three seasons with the Minnesota Twins.
The 32-year-old is a right-handed bat who mashes left-handed pitching. He’s hit .240 with a .289 OBP against lefties in his career but has slugged .510 against them compared to a career of .207/.264/.348 against righties.
Arizona was in search of a right-handed bat to complement Pederson, who struggles against lefty pitching, and hope that Garlick is the answer.
He has limited defensive value but gives the D-Backs a depth option off the bench.
