Dodgers Game Updates vs Royals: Julio Urias Finally Returns, Slumping Vargas in Lineup

The Dodgers downed the Royals by a final of 9-3 on Friday night, taking game one of the series and giving them at least a .500 record on this current two city road trip. Bobby Miller gave them an okay but not great start while the bullpen was electric in picking up 3.1 scoreless innings to set things up nicely for the return of ace Julio Urias (5-4, 4.39 ERA). The left hander comes off the injured list to face Kansas City southpaw Daniel Lynch (1-3, 3.96 ERA).

It’s worth noting that, as of publishing time, Urias had not officially been activated.

MLB Standings

Here’s a look at the lineup Doc is sending out against the Royal hurler.

Noted home run hitter Mookie Betts moves back to right field as Miguel Vargas is back in the lineup at second base. Max Muncy gets the day off and Yonny Hernandez picks up another start at third base. Miguel Rojas batting 6th stands out like a sore thumb.

Rookies Jonny DeLuca and James Outman are patrolling left and center field.

Pitching Matchup

Julio Urias has missed the better part of six weeks while recovering from a hamstring strain. Before then, he was battling some mechanical issues over 10 up and down starts to open the season. He’ll look to get his season on track against the basement dwelling Royals. He’s never faced Kansas City in his career.

Daniel Lynch is in his third year with the Royals and in the midst of his finest season yet (career ERA was 5.32 entering the season). The former first round pick out of Virginia has struggled to live up to the expectations so far as a one time top 50 prospect in baseball.
