Dodgers News: Be Best Muncy, Concern for Evan Phillips, Bulk Injury Updates and More

The Dodgers are on a winning streak! What a special time in franchise history… Okay, we’re embellishing here, but still it feels nice to win a couple of ball games in a row. Clayton Kershaw won his 201st game on Sunday and Max Muncy hit his league leading 11th home run as the boys in blue took a happy flight to Pittsburgh for a three game set before heading back home to Los Angeles for a six game homestand.

Muncy finished up what could or should be an NL Player of the Week worthy stretch of games. He hit .389 with 5 home runs, 7 RBI, and posted a 1.815 OPS in 7 games. Dave Roberts praised the slugging third baseman following Sunday afternoon’s win.

“He’s been on maybe his best tear (of his career) in this 10 day/two week period. He was lost early and now you’re talking about leading the league in homers and player of the month acknowledgement. To have some other guys not swinging well and to have Max carry us… big cog.”

Potentially devastating news involving RHP Evan Phillips surfaced on Twitter late on Sunday night following an update on the MLB transactions page. The reliever was placed on the paternity leave list on Thursday as he and wife Elizabeth were reportedly welcoming their first child. Notably, he flew out from LA to Chicago with the team but immediately flew back. Now a report showing he’s been placed on the bereavement list has fans very concerned.

The hope is that it was an incorrect designation by someone on the backend of MLB.com but either way, our thoughts and love are with Evan and the Phillips family.

Notably, Dave Roberts also talked about Phillips before Sunday’s game saying that he expected the reliever back with the club on Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
