Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Reacts to LA’s Addition of 2017 Houston Astros Player

Over the All-Star break, the Dodgers acquired right-handed outfielder Jake Marisnick, a member of the 2017 world-champion Houston Astros. The 2017 Astros cheated during the World Series against the Dodgers.

The media in Los Angeles won’t let the story die. Clayton Kershaw, Austin Barnes and Chris Taylor are the only members of the 2017 Dodgers still on the team, however, the addition of Marisnick is unpopular with the Los Angeles media. They asked Kershaw about the signing.

“I know him a little bit. I’ve been on vacation with him, ironically enough,” Kershaw said. “For some reason, I don’t get as mad at him because he wasn’t in the lineup – selfishly, I guess. He didn’t really affect me. At least, it’s not one of the other guys, I guess.”

If the Dodgers acquired Marisnick in either 2020 or 2021, Marisnick wouldn’t have been accepted. Now, as the Dodgers battle with both the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants for the National League West title, the team will accept Marisnick if he’s able to help them win.

“I think he’s had to deal with it (the 2017 scandal) for a long time,” Kershaw said. “I think he has some remorse for it, as well, which is probably all you can ask for at this point. He’s a good guy, though. He’ll help our clubhouse.”

The Dodgers wanted a veteran right-handed outfielder in the second half instead of Johnny Deluca. If Marisnick contributes, everyone will forgive him for his association with the 2017 Astros.
