Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Admits Atlanta Has An Edge Over LA

As the Dodgers got ready to welcome in the Atlanta Braves for a big four-game series, there was a sense of hope around the team. They had been rolling through the month of August and gained some ground on Atlanta record-wise.

But two games into the series, and it feels likely that the Braves may have gotten the best of LA in this one. The Dodgers still have a chance to finish the series tied at two games, but it will take a much better effort than they have shown so far.

Manager Dave Roberts believes that his team has left something on the table in the first two games of the series.

“Yeah, I think that’s fair,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said when asked if the greatest distance between the National League’s two best teams is the starting pitching. “Not to take anything away from our guys but the numbers don’t lie.

Per The OC Register

LA has seen their starting pitching over the first two games go back to how they were. Lance Lynn got lit up in game one and Julio Urias allowed five runs on Friday night.

This wasn’t how the team had hoped the series would go, but the Braves also were coming in with something to prove. After all, LA did take two of three games against them in Atlanta when they matched up in May.

Maybe the Braves wanted to show that they were still the best team in the league. They have heard all the talk surrounding the Dodgers of late, so they wanted to make a statement themselves.

Roberts praised the Atlanta starting pitching for keeping his guys down so far but acknowledged that their own needs to be better going forward.

“But as far as collectively, I think we can do a better job of preventing runs than we’ve shown in these two games. But, yeah, their starting pitching you could argue might be the best in baseball.”

Per The OC Register

These regular season games against Atlanta don’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. But they do provide some level of blueprint for any potential playoff matchup down the line.

The Braves likely will be the biggest competition for LA in the National League this season, so these games are a learning experience. Hopefully, LA can take the next two games of the series and leave Dodger Stadium feeling hopeful for their future against Atlanta.

  1. In a nutshell, the Braves have been a juggernaut in every aspect! They are, by far, the best team in the entire MLB! What a fantastic season it has been to watch them!

  2. Unfortunately, there are many comparisons between this series with the Braves and last year’s playoff with San Diego.
