Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Admits Players Are Getting Frustrated Amid Struggles

The Los Angeles Dodgers are not off to their usual dominant start this 2023 season. Through 19 games, the team is 9-10, their first time having a losing record this late into the season since 2018.

There isn’t just one area of the team that’s struggled. The offense has been inconsistent, the bullpen has been shaky and the starting pitching has left a lot to be desired.

After the Dodgers 8-6 loss on Monday to the Mets, in which the team held the lead three different times, manager Dave Roberts told the media that the team is starting to get frustrated.

“They’re frustrated,” Roberts said. “Because we know what we’re capable of. You just got to keep going. That’s what separates good teams from teams that aren’t good.”

Last year, this team didn’t really go through any struggles. They got hot out the gate, and carried that momentum all the way to a record-setting 111-win season. This year, however, things feel different.

There are a lot of new faces, a lot of young faces and a team that doesn’t feel anywhere near as dominant to the historically great team last season. However, the players who were there last year know that this team can get back to playing dominant baseball.

“It’s baseball. It’s gonna happen,” Muncy said of the Dodgers’ slump. “It is frustrating, but you’ve just got to go out there every single day and play that game and not worry about what’s been happening, what’s gonna happen. Just gotta worry about today, and as long as we do that, I feel confident about our team.”

Freddie Freeman seconded Max Muncy’s sentiment.

“We’d love to be 17-0,” Freeman said. “We haven’t gotten off to the start we wanted. But what does talking about it do? We’ve got to go out there and start playing better and win games. That’s really all we can do.”

The Dodgers ended up splitting the rest of the series, and finished 2-5 on the recent home stand against the Cubs and Mets. Now, they head back to Chicago for a four-game set against the Cubs again, before a much-needed day off on Monday.
