Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Doesn’t Think JD Martinez Will Go on Injured List

Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez continues to deal with a lingering injury. Martinez was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup after feeling tightness in his groin/hamstring area, the same injury that kept him out a few days last week.

Now, Martinez is back in Los Angeles getting treatment, which is a bit of a concern for LA.

However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on Martinez on Tuesday, and said he doesn’t expect him to go on the injured list with this injury.

“I don’t think so,” Roberts said. “I think we’ve dealt with this all year, even throughout spring training. So it might be some type of shot. And then he’ll be down for a couple days, and our expectation is he should be back sometime this weekend.”

Hopefully the treatment works and Martinez is able to get back into the lineup this weekend, as he’s been one of LA’s best and most consistent hitters this season.

On the year, Martinez is hitting .260/.312/.558 with 25 home runs and 68 RBIs, in what’s been an incredible bounce back season for the now six-time All-Star.

He’s on pace to have his best season since 2019 when he finished 21st in MVP voting, and has been a real catalyst for a potent Dodgers offense this season.

So, we can hope that Martinez is able to heal up quickly and return to LA’s lineup sooner rather than later.

If he’s not, however, the Dodgers may have to place him on the injured list to ensure he’s fully healed for the stretch run of the season. And if they do, they have multiple Triple-A options to replace him, including rookies Michael Busch and Miguel Vargas.

We’ll see if the treatment works, or if Martinez does, in fact, have to go on the IL with this lingering injury. But for now, we’ll just trust Roberts on this one.
