Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Still Believes Lance Lynn Can Be Trusted in Postseason

The Dodgers entered the month of September on a roll, but as the calendar flipped, so did LA.

Luckily for them, they have a big enough lead in the NL West currently where the games right now don’t matter fully. They can use this time to prepare themselves for the postseason, but they should look to get back to the habits that got them into this position.

The starting rotation has taken a hit once again, with players struggling in their last few outings. One of those has been veteran Lance Lynn, who seems to be resorting back to his early season issues.

Lynn was acquired by LA from the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline, and he looked great over his first few starts. But over his last two appearances, Lynn has allowed 15 runs.

When asked if Lynn could be trusted in the playoffs after his most recent poor start, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts didn’t flinch.

“Yeah, I think we can,” Roberts said when asked if Lynn could be trusted to make a start in October. “It’s just more of seeing that high-end stuff from pitch one. I think that’s something, to the question of the postseason, it’s not about a governor. It’s about every pitch, every out is important. So yeah, I think we can. Where we’re at, we’re gonna have to lean on him a little bit too.”

Lynn showed that he could be a shutdown pitcher in his first few games as a member of the Dodgers. He has been roughed up a little bit of late, but Roberts doesn’t see it as an issue. However, it is a cause for concern considering the state of the LA rotation right now.

They are going to need Lynn to get back into form down the stretch of the season. They brought him in to help stabilize the rotation, and they need him to do just that.

“Both of them have been the same situation,” Lynn said. “Not putting people away when I need to. Walking guys. Then it turns into a big inning. Give them extra baserunners, make mistakes, big-league hitters are gonna hurt you. They’ve hurt me bad.”

Per The OC Register

He does have postseason experience, winning the 2011 World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals among other appearances. Lynn is a very up-and-down pitcher, so the team will be banking on a few strong weeks from him during the postseason.

This will be something to watch as the rest of the year goes on, as Lynn is going to play a big role in how far this Dodgers team goes this season.
