Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman Back in Lineup After Wearing Pitch to Kneecap

For the Dodgers, Freddie Freeman is as tough as they come. Just hours after taking an errant pitch off of his right kneecap, he’s back in the starting lineup for Dave Roberts.

Not that it comes as a shock to anyone.

The first baseman told reporters following his early exit from the game that, yeah “it hurt,” but being out of Sunday’s lineup was never an option. He was checked out by trainers but declined an x-ray last night.

Roberts acknowledged that just about any other player he would have benched the next day to keep them off their feet. But, again, with Freddie, that’s not really an option.

Freeman takes extreme pride in his modern day iron man style of play. In that he plays every day. He missed only two games last season and those only came after the Dodgers secured a division title.

Along with Freddie, Mookie Betts is back in the lineup after missing a day with a reported stomach bug. The dynamic duo at the top of the lineup has combined for 281 hits, 195 runs scored, 161 RBI, 54 home runs, and 74 doubles this season, making up arguably the best one-two punch in all of baseball.

The Dodgers are going for the four game series sweep of the Rockies this afternoon with Julio Urias on the mound. Urias just turned 27 on Saturday and is riding a 14 inning scoreless streak heading into the game.
