Dodgers News: Julio Urias Felt Something ‘Click’ in Latest Dominant Outing vs Pirates

With many questions surrounding the Dodgers pitching staff, it looks like one of them was answered in the Dodgers win over the Pirates Thursday night.

Leading up to his start Thursday night, people were wondering if Julio Urías had lost his dominance. Last year, Urías had a National League leading 2.16 ERA and finished third in Cy Young voting.

Through 11 starts this season, there has been something off with the Dodgers pitcher. He had an ERA nearing five and was finding himself on the injured list for way too long.

Luckily for the Dodgers and Urías, the lefty figured out what he needed to do to be successful in middle of his start against the Pirates.

“In that last inning, it felt like it clicked,” Urías said through an interpreter. “Something clicked for me and that very last inning, and I think it’s something I’m going to be able to take into the second half.”

Urías had one of his best outings of the season. He went 6 innings for the first time since early May and struck out eight. He also only gave up two runs which is the least amount of runs he’s given up since May 2nd.

Many people in the Dodgers organization believe that Thursday was the first step to Urías looking like himself again.

Manager Dave Roberts especially took notice to how well Urías pitched.

“This is Julio,” said Roberts. “I think there was a little bit of frustration. I think there was some embarrassment. And he rolled up his sleeves tonight, and he competed like he always does. But I just felt that tonight, he was truly on the attack from pitch one.”

The Dodgers are going to need more dominant starts from Urías in the second half of the season. So far this year, Clayton Kershaw has been the only dependable starter on the team — and he’s currently on the IL.

If Urías can get on a hot streak, the Dodgers rotation will look as good as it has all year coming out of the break.
