Dodgers News: Julio Urias is Finally Feeling Like Himself Again

Dodgers LHP Julio Urias is finally starting to look like his old self again. After struggling mightily to open the year, his last three starts have been much better, and his last two starts have been nearly perfect.

Urias is in the midst of a 14 inning scoreless streak, and is coming off back-to-back scoreless outings against the Oakland Athletics and Arizona Diamondbacks.

On Tuesday against Arizona, Urias dominated across six shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out five.

After the game, he talked about feeling like himself again.

“The results have been positive, but mostly just feeling like myself,” Urias said in Spanish. “Feeling like myself mechanically. Feeling like with all three of my pitches I can make an adjustment. That’s what I’m liking and I’m hoping I can keep that constant.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts chimed in on Urias’ hot streak, too and what he’s noticed from his ace.

“The fastball has more life. The command of the fastball is much better,” Roberts said. “The late life with the slider and the changeup has been considerably better. That probably speaks to delivery (adjustments). But when he’s good, when any pitcher is good, everything comes out of the same window, the same lane. You can tell when everything looks like the same pitch.”

This has been a welcome sight for the Dodgers, who have been missing their ace pitcher all season long.

If Urias can get back to being the pitcher he’s been the last two seasons — you know, one of the best in baseball — it would go a long way to shoring up this LA rotation for the stretch run and postseason.

“That was Julio right there,” Freddie Freeman said after the game. “That was fun to watch. He just looked so much more free. The ball was coming out so effortlessly. That’s a really good sign for the Dodgers there.”
