Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Used Lesson from Kobe Bryant in Emotional Weekend in Boston

This past weekend was a homecoming for Mookie Betts as he returned to Fenway Park for the first time since being traded away from the Boston Red Sox. LA was able to take two of three games from the Red Sox, giving them another series win.

It was an emotional experience for him all around, but Betts knew that there was a job to be done. The Dodgers All-Star took a page out of a Los Angeles Lakers great’s playbook to help him get through the weekend.

“Got a job to take care of. You have to separate business and emotions and I’ve learned from a couple people and especially Kobe when I got to talk to him … and I just put it into my repertoire,” Betts said.

Per The OC Register

The All-Star understood the assignment to its fullest extent. Betts was one of the driving forces behind the Dodgers series victory, as he provided a major offensive boost.

He went 7-15 during the series, including two three-run hit games. It was the kind of production over the three games where you’d think Betts wanted to remind the Red Sox just how good of a player he is.

“Obviously the emotions were there and I let them come, but I also let them go and you have to be able to separate it.”

On Friday, the Boston faithful gave him an ovation before his first at-bat. It was a nice gesture from the fans that he grew up with, acknowledging his accomplishments with the team.

Overall, it was a cool weekend for the entire Dodgers organization, with Betts leading the charge. His teammates had his back over the weekend, which likely helped him. They all got the job done by winning the series and now can move forward.

As a team, the Dodgers are clicking right now. They have been dominant during the month of August, and this was just another reminder of that fact.

LA now heads head to open a homestand this coming week. They will be welcoming in the Arizona Diamondbacks for a few games before matching up with the league-leading Atlanta Braves over the weekend.
