Dodgers News: Ryan Pepiot Wins AAA Player of the Week Award

As the postseason quickly approaches and some young players in the minors continue to play well at the Triple-A level, Dave Roberts may have additional questions to answer come October.

After a stellar performance off of injury, Dodgers pitcher Ryan Pepiot earned himself the AAA Player of the Week award thanks to an especially dominant start.

Set to be part of the team’s Opening Day rotation, Pepiot suffered an injury to his oblique that simply lingered long into the regular season.

Working his way back to full strength with more reps at the lower levels, the young righty had all the tools to get through nearly seven innings of strong work.

It’s an encouraging sign for another emerging arm in the Dodgers’ farm system in a year that’s needed all the help it could get.

Though Clayton Kershaw just returned from injury, it’s been a revolving door of rookies to help the starting rotation depth for LA this year.

Emmett Sheehan, Bobby Miller and Michael Grove all have had significant major league time due to injuries to Pepiot, Julio Urias, Tony Gonsolin and Kershaw.

Urias and Gonsolin have been pitching better as of late and their most recent starts against the Rockies helped the Dodgers sweep their series against Colorado in dominating fashion.

Though these are good problems to have, too much depth could turn into an issue for the Dodgers.

If Pepiot proves healthy and good enough for the major league roster, it remains a question of whether or not he’s brought back as a reliever or a starter.

In the meantime, Pepiot is slowly working his way back to full strength and looks to contribute to the big league roster either this year or in 2024.

With such depth in their farm system and more help on the way, the team can afford to wait for the very best of their young righty.
