Dodgers News: Shelby Miller Placed on Bereavement Leave

The Dodgers announced a roster move ahead of the second game in the series with the Phillies. Veteran reliever Shelby Miller was placed on the bereavement leave list and should be away from the team for the rest of this road trip. In a corresponding move, right-hander Andre Jackson has been recalled from Triple-A for the third time this season.

SportsNet LA reporter Kirsten Watson was among those to share the news.

There’s no word on what the emergency is for Shelby and his family, but our thoughts go out to them.

Miller was great for the Dodgers on Friday night, tossing two scoreless innings against the Phillies, striking out three batters along the way. Overall, the 32-year-old has been a great addition to the bullpen, posting a 2.57 ERA over 24 appearances.

He should rejoin the team once they return to Dodger Stadium on Tuesday.

Andre Jackson returns to the active roster after almost a month at Triple-A. Altogether, Jackson’s season has been forgettable at the big league and minor league levels. With LA, he has a 7.98 ERA over 14.2 innings. With Oklahoma City, that ERA is sitting at 5.48 over 23 innings. He’s been used sparingly of late, pitching mostly in a bulk role. He’s allowed 11 earned runs over his last 4 outings.

Jackson opened the season in the big league bullpen but struggled to get hitters out. He allowed 8 runs over his first 8.1 innings including a 5 run implosion in Chicago against the Cubs in April.

Dodgers rookie sensation Bobby Miller starts in Philly this afternoon facing former All-Star Aaron Nola. He’ll look to continue the fine start to his career coming off a dominant performance against the Yankees in primetime last Sunday night.
