Dodgers Rumors: Nolan Arenado Would Likely Waive No Trade Clause to Come to LA

With MLB’s August 1st trade deadline rapidly approaching, the talent that the Los Angeles Dodgers have been linked to really runs the gamut.

Shohei Ohtani and Lucas Giolito are just two of the big names the Dodgers have been tied to, and you can add a third to that already strong list in St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado.

The 32-year-old is having another strong season for the Redbirds, as he’s hitting .291 and has racked up 21 home runs with 76 RBI this year, production that was good enough to earn the slugger his eighth straight All-Star selection earlier this month.

But his underachieving team could be in a selling mood at the deadline, and now it looks like Arenado would waive one crucial element that could make a deal happen: His full no-trade clause.

According to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, it’s expected that the El Toro HS alum would give his approval for a trade to his hometown team if that situation were to materialize.

“The Cardinals aren’t expected to trade Arenado at the moment, but the Dodgers have the type of young talent — particularly pitching — to sway teams in a situation like this. Arenado has a full no-trade clause, but he grew up in Southern California and the expectation is that he would waive it for a team like the Dodgers.”

Even though the Cardinals may not be willing partners when it comes to Arenado — who’s under contract through the 2027 season — LA has more than enough prospects to make a swap an option.

While LA probably wouldn’t give up their top of the line prospects in an Arenado trade, names like pitchers Nick Frasso, River Ryan, and outfielder Josue De Paula may be some of the Dodgers minor leaguers potentially on the move in a hypothetical deal.

We’ll see what happens, but with a week to go until the trade deadline, a lot of options are on the table for the Dodgers — including the local third baseman.

And one thing is for sure in this time of uncertainty.

Dodger fans want the franchise to bring Arenado into the fold this August.
