Dodgers Still Frontrunner For Shohei Ohtani Despite Dave Roberts’ Comments, Says MLB Network Insider

Tuesday was one of those days when you were just thankful that you were on social media while drama was taking place. After Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that the team had met with free agent two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, chaos ensued.

The majority of the baseball world has clouded anything regarding the free agent over the last few weeks concerning his privacy. It was reported that Ohtani was holding secret meetings and that any leaks about the meetings would be held against the team in question.

So, when Roberts spoke up about the LA meeting with Ohtani a few days ago, it was eye-opening. Fans seemed to calm down, but then Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said that he was “surpsised” about Roberts’ comments, leading to more hysteria by fans.

But even with all of this drama, one MLB insider doesn’t believe that the comments from Roberts will have any effect on the decision from Ohtani. Jon Morosi of MLB Network still believes that the Dodgers are the frontrunners to sign the two-way superstar.

“On many accounts, the Dodgers still the frontrunners in all of this. I do not see in any way, in any way that what Dave Roberts said yesterday changes the calculus here.”

All Roberts did was confirm that they met with Ohtani and that he believed it went well. He didn’t leak any information about what was said.

Plus, Roberts wouldn’t do anything to harm their chances, so something feels off with this. Roberts is normally very tight-lipped about things, so either he went rouge or he was given the green light to confirm.

It remains to be seen if this will have any effect on the negotiations with Ohtani, but at this point in free agency, it would be shocking if it did. Everyone already assumed that the Dodgers had met with Ohtani, and Roberts was just confirming it happened. He said that he didn’t want to lie about it, showing who he is as a person.

Hopefully, no more information will come out about their meeting and Ohtani can make his decision in peace. We are at the finish line on Ohtani watch, and hopefully, he chooses the Dodgers when it’s all said and done.
