Dodgers News: Andrew Friedman ‘Surprised’ Dave Roberts Spoke Candidly About Shohei Ohtani

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was in the news on Tuesday after he revealed that the team had indeed met with free agent Shohei Ohtani at Dodger Stadium a few days ago. This went against all of the secrecy that had been going on around Ohtani’s free agency and could be used against the Dodgers when it comes to him picking a team.

Many fans went into a frenzy after the comments by Roberts, but there has to be more to this than on the surface. Roberts wouldn’t do anything to hurt the team or jeopardize their chances with Ohtani, which is why this entire situation is strange.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman addressed the comments made by Roberts on Tuesday, saying that he was “surprised” that the manager would reveal the meeting. This comes after he said “no comment” on the situation right after it all happened.

It’s unknown at this time how this will affect the decision of Ohtani, but Friedman’s response goes along the same line as Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes. Gomes said that he was “surprised” to hear Roberts’ comments about the meeting.

Despite the comments, MLB insider Jon Morosi of MLB Network still views the Dodgers as the frontrunners to land the two-way superstar. Many have believed that this could harm their chances, but this far into free agency, it may not be the case.

We seem to be coming closer to the finish line on the Ohtani front, and if he doesn’t sign with the Dodgers, many fans will turn on Roberts. But hopefully, this doesn’t have any bearing on the outcome, and the generational player chooses to make Los Angeles his home for the foreseeable future.
